Why Manchester United should invest in Callum Hudson-Odoi for the future

According to MEN (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are considering a swoop for Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi in the summer.

The 19-year-old is a product of Chelsea’s youth academy. He excelled with the Blues’ youth teams, winning the English Youth League as well as back-to-back FA youth cup titles. He came to prominence in the U17 World Cup in 2017 and he played a key role for England in that tournament, providing 2 assists against Brazil in the final.

He made his first-team debut in January 2018 but since then, he has featured in just 60 games for the Blues and has lacked regular game time. He is one of the most exciting young talents in England and thus, United should take advantage of his situation and make a move for Hudson-Odoi at the earliest.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have managed to qualify for the Champions League despite a poor start to the campaign. The arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January coincided with their good run of form in the second half of the season as they went on to finish 3rd in the league standings.

The manager has given a lot of opportunities to the youngsters and they have repaid his faith. However, there are certain areas where United need to strengthen for the future. And thus, Solskjaer investing in youth would be a smart move.

Hudson-Odoi – A future star for Manchester United

Though United’s attacking unit has been brilliant throughout the campaign, they lack the required depth in the frontline. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford managed to score 17 goals each in the league and young Mason greenwood also enjoyed an excellent breakthrough season, scoring 10 league goals.

However, apart from them, none has risen to the occasion. Daniel James’ United career got off to a good start but faded towards the end of the campaign. Jesse Lingard and Tahith Chong haven’t contributed enough due to a lack of consistency.

Hence, Chelsea’s Hudson-Odoi would be a smart addition to the squad. The youngster, despite receiving fewer opportunities, has racked up 4 goals and 7 assists this season. He has also made 3 appearances for England despite his tender age and could be seen as a future prospect.

His inclusion would definitely bring healthy competition to United’s attack, whilst also adding some much-needed depth. He could be a replacement for Lingard or Chong on the right side of the attack if he is able to replicate the promise he has shown so far.

Hudson-Odoi is just 19 and has a lot of room for development. And United investing in the youngster could help them reap rewards in the future. He could develop himself under the guidance of Solskjaer and could represent them in the long run.
