Why Manchester United should make a move Geoffrey Kondogbia
According to Foot Mercato (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are eyeing a move for Valencia star Geoffrey Kondogbia in the summer.
Kondogbia, 27, spent time at the academies of FC Nandy and US Senart-Moissy before joining Lens’ youth system. In January 2012, he was signed by La Liga side Sevilla and then went on to play for Monaco and Inter Milan before joining Valencia in August 2017 initially on loan.
After impressing on his loan spell with Valencia, where he also contributed with 4 goals and 4 assists, his move was made permanent. The midfielder then struggled with injuries last season but has established himself as a key member of Valencia’s squad, helping them to a 9th place finish in La Liga this term.
However, he has just two years left on his contract with the club, and the report suggests that Tottenham are also interested in making a move for Kondogbia.
Kondogbia could add depth and quality to United’s midfield
One area where the manager needs to strengthen is the central midfield. Bruno Fernandes was signed in January and the Portuguese international’s inclusion has improved the team’s attacking unit. Paul Pogba’s return to the squad has also been a huge boost and he has done well since the restart.
At the moment, United have only one defensive midfielder in Nemanja Matic. The Serbian has been in sensational form since the restart but he is already 31. Apart from him, there is no experienced defensive midfielder in the team. Thus, Manchester United must sign a defensive midfielder in the summer.
In that regard, Kondogbia would a smart addition to the squad. The Central African international is one of the best midfielders in defensive situations and has gone from strength to strength in the last few years. He featured in 27 games this season, scoring 1 goal and 1 assist, He could be a good replacement for Matic in the future.
He has made nearly 300 career appearances and his experience could come in handy for the manager. He has already proved his mettle in La Liga and if he is able to replicate the same form, he can succeed in the Premier League.

Verdict
Though Matic has extended his contract with United, it would be wise of the club to bring in someone who could compete with the Serbian. Kondogbia would be an added bonus for the manager.
He could also take on from the former Chelsea man’s mantle once he steps down. Thus, United should lure the Central African international to Old Trafford and bolster their midfield in the summer.
