Why Manchester United should allow Paul Pogba to leave the club

According to The Sun (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United are willing to let Paul Pogba leave the club after securing the services of Bruno Fernandes.

The report also claims that since he has been linked with moves to Juventus and Real Madrid for a long time, United are willing to accept a cut-price deal for his departure.

Pogba, 26, who joined United as a youth player from Le Havre in 2009, switched to Italian side Juventus in 2012. After four successful years in Turin, he was brought back to Old Trafford for £93.2m.

A part of the squad that won the English League Cup and the Europa League in the 2016/17 season, Pogba scored 13 goals and provided 9 assists in the league the last term.

As the report claims, however, he pushed hard for a move away from the club last summer. This term, Pogba featured in only 8 games across all competitions and has been on the sidelines due to an injury.

The French international has contributed just two assists and hasn’t lived up to the expectations this season. He could have left Old Trafford this month but another injury stalled his move, as per the report.

That said, it would be the right choice to let him move on since it would benefit both the club and the player. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have done a decent job without Pogba for the majority of the season. In the midfield, Fred and Scott McTominay have shown signs of promise before the latter got injured.

Moreover, Bruno Fernandes has arrived and his presence does come as a boost. While playing for his former club this term, he contributed 15 goals and provided 14 assists – after scoring 32 goals in the previous campaign.

Verdict

Manchester United’s decision to offload Pogba strikes the right chords. Earlier, his exit would’ve left a huge void but with Fernandes in the squad, that won’t be a problem anymore. Therefore, Solskjaer must not depend on the 26-year-old anymore and process his departure in the summer.
