Why Manchester United should sell Alexis Sanchez in the summer

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are planning to offload Alexis Sanchez, who is on loan with Inter Milan, in the summer. The report further claims that the club are on the lookout for potential buyers.

Sanchez, 31, joined Barcelona in the summer of 2011 form Udinese Calcio and established himself as one of the best players in the La Liga. He won several trophies with the Catalans, including the league title in the 2012/13 season. In total, he made 141 appearances for the club.

He was signed by Arsenal in 2014 and went on to make 166 appearances for the Gunners before switching to Old Trafford in January 2018. Since his move to United, the Chilean has struggled with injuries and has seen limited game time.

Currently, with Inter Milan under Antonio Conte, he hasn’t been able to replicate his best form and seems to be on the decline. He has featured in just 7 league games this season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have endured a mixed season. They are currently 8th in the league table, one point below Everton and are at risk of losing out on a European spot.

However, United have a huge squad and they must look to offload some players who have not been up to the mark.

With that in mind, Alexis Sanchez should be offloaded permanently. United have a young left-winger in Daniel James and Marcus Rashford has also done well on the left side of the pitch. He has scored 14 league goals this term but will be out for few months due to an injury. His return would be a huge boost to the team.

Sanchez is nearing the twilight of his career and hasn’t featured for the full 90 minutes of a game in the whole campaign for Inter.

Keeping the former Barcelona man would be a waste of resources. His form has also not improved at San Siro and United holding on to him does not make sense.

He has averaged just 0.6 shots, 0.6 key passes, and 0.3 dribbles per game in the league, which is way lower than his numbers of last season. [Whoscored]

Therefore, selling Sanchez would be the best option for the Red Devils as they need more youngsters to bolster their attack.
