Why Manchester United must offload Anthony Martial and bring in Kylian Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain find themselves in a precarious position. The Parisian side must play a balancing act to avoid breaching UEFA Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Last summer, PSG broke the bank to sign Neymar from Barcelona and they also brought in Kylian Mbappe on a season-long loan from Monaco.

A deal was in place for PSG to complete a permanent deal for the youngster but with FFP regulations, could the Parc des Princes side be forced to offload Mbappe?

European heavyweights Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid have taken notice. In fact, Jose Mourinho is ready to use Anthony Martial as a makeweight in a deal to bring Mbappe to Old Trafford.

Kylian Mbappe

Martial endured an inconsistent season at United, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists in 45 appearances. In contrast, Mbappe scored 21 goals and provided 16 assists in 46 games and is currently leading France’s attack in the ongoing World Cup in Russia. Philiipe Lamboley, Martial’s agent, has admitted that the youngster wants out this summer. But could a move back to AS Monaco be on the cards?

According to Daily Express, United value Martial at £80million, meaning they must shell out a further £88million in cash to land Mbappe. Mourinho has been in the market for a new attacker since releasing veteran Swede striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Furthermore, Alexis Sanchez has failed to establish himself since completing his move from Arsenal in the winter window.

Kylian Mbappe

United finished second in the Premier League last season but the Red Devils went out against Sevilla in the Champions League. Mourinho’s side looked disjointed at times and if they are to compete for the title against free-scoring clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool, they must sign Mbappe.

The versatile 19-year-old can play on the right-wing, as a centre-forward or even on the left-wing. Mbappe could partner with Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to provide United with a new attacking dimension.

Supported by a midfield that includes the likes of Pogba, Matic, Mata, Lingard and Fred, this new look United side would be unstoppable. Martial’s move to France would offer him the chance to rejuvenate his career. Hence, this deal would result in a win-win situation for all parties involved.
