Why Lyndon Dykes would be a boost to the Rangers attacking unit

According to Daily Mail, Rangers are set to battle it out with Stoke City over the signing of Livingston FC star Lyndon Dykes in the summer.

Dykes, 24, made a name for himself with the Queen of the South FC in the Scottish Championship after joining them in the summer of 2016. After 136 appearances and 23 goals, he moved to Livingston and has become an instant hit at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

The Australian has been in sensational form for the past three years and is building a reputation for himself. Thus, Rangers should make a move for him ahead of Stoke City before the start of the new season.

Despite performing on a higher note at the start of the campaign, Steven Gerrard’s men have failed to carry on with the early season momentum until the last stages of the league season. They have fallen 13 points behind their rivals Celtic in the race to the Premiership title and are on course to extend their trophyless campaign for another season.

However, with the campaign nearing its end, the manager should look to bring in reinforcements to the squad to do a better job next time around. One area that Gerrard needs to focus on is the attacking unit, where Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe did a brilliant job but have failed in the latter stages of the league season.

The Colombian, who scored 12 goals in his first 17 league games, failed to find the back of the net in the last 9 games before the season got suspended. Morelos has also been linked with a move away from the club and his departure could leave the Gers with one established striker down. Defoe has also scored 13 goals so far but he is already 34 and beyond is prime.

Thus, Rangers should bring in a striker to add depth and competition up front, and Livingston FC’s Lyndon Dykes would be a suitable option for the club.

Dykes has already scored 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 games across all competitions and is the joint sixth highest top scorer in the Premiership.

The Australian would undoubtedly add depth to Rangers’ attacking unit, whilst also bringing in a healthy competition to the strikers. He has the ability to succeed at a higher level and if he is able to replicate the good form, he would certainly be a valuable addition to Gerrard’s side.

At 24, Dykes has a lot to offer at a higher level and Rangers need to recruit strikers if they lose Morelos in the summer. He can provide them with much-needed extra goals and thus, the Gers should be able to lure the Australian to Ibrox in the summer.
