Why Liverpool should invest in Talles Magno for the future

According to AS (h/t The Express), Liverpool have joined the race to sign Vasco da Gama starlet Talles Magno in the summer.

Magno, 17, came through the ranks of Vasco da Gama’s youth system and was promoted to the club’s senior set-up back in July 2019. He played a crucial role in Brazil’s U17 World Cup win last year until the quarterfinals, after which he picked up an ankle injury.

The youngster has been in fine form this term for his club. He is one of the most promising young talents in the country, looking for a switch to Europe. And the report suggests that several clubs including Benfica, Lyon and Sevilla are interested in signing Magno.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been dominant in the league for the past two seasons. After missing out on the Premier League title by a point in the last campaign, they have made progress this season by dominating the rest of the teams.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are 25 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City and are on course to lift the league title for the first time in the modern era when the league resumes. The Reds have been brilliant in both attacking and defensive situations.

They have a number world-class players in their ranks and are flying high under the management of Klopp. However, with the ongoing crisis created by the pandemic, it would be wise if the Reds roped in a few youngsters for their youth and reserve sides.

The financial crisis would almost restrict several teams in Europe from spending heavily in the summer. And thus, bring in youngsters to their youth ranks would help them reap rewards in the future.

Magno – A future star for Liverpool?

Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi are the two centre-forwards available at the manager’s disposal. While Firmino is the first-choice striker, Origi has done his part well so far. Both of them have performed decently in their respective roles in the club’s success. Although, the latter hasn’t been able to hit the heights of last season this time out.

While they have a few more years left to play at a higher level, it would be right for the manager to bring in youngsters with a view for the future.

In that regard, signing Magno for their youth ranks would be a step in the right direction. The Brazilian is a budding talent and he has already made 17 senior appearances for his side. In the process, he has racked up 2 goals and 1 assist. He is just 17 and under the guidance of Klopp, he would evolve into a valuable player for The Reds.

Verdict

Magno, in his short time at the first-team level at Vasco da Gama, has done well. Moreover, the forward has impressed with the Brazil youth teams as well, indicating his potential.

While he would not be a first-team player immediately, under Klopp’s guidance, he can be groomed into a player for the future along with the likes of Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and more. Thus, Liverpool should beat competition and lure the teenager to Anfield this summer.
