Why Liverpool should beat Madrid to the signing of Marcelo Brozovic

According to TransferMarketWeb (h/t Daily Star), Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic has emerged as a target for both Liverpool and Real Madrid.

The report suggests that both the clubs will battle each other for the Croatian’s signing in the summer. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side have been active over the last two transfer windows and they must ensure that they get their hands on Brozovic.

Brozovic, 27, moved to dynamo Zagreb in 2012 from NK Lokomotiva Zagreb. In three years with Dinamo, he won the Croatian League title in each of the seasons. Inter Milan signed him in 2015 and since then, he has been a regular for the Serie A giants.

Throughout the last 18 months, he has established himself as a key member under Antonio Conte. He formed a strong partnership with summer recruit Stefano Sensi at the start of the campaign before the Italian got injured and sidelined. Regardless, his performances have lifted Inter to the top of the table in the Serie A.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp should make some important signings in the summer to see that his team is ready for a new challenge in the new season.

Despite dominating the Premier League this campaign, Liverpool have faced limitations in the defensive midfield position. Former Monaco man Fabinho started well but a ligament injury has kept him out for several months. And 34-year-old James Milner has been filling in. Therefore, the Reds must get into the market and sign Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan.

The 27-year-old is not only capable of playing as a defensive midfielder but can also carry the team forward as he has contributed with 3 goals and 5 assists across all competitions this season. He also scored a spectacular goal against AC Milan last weekend and was instrumental in the team’s comeback after they went 0-2 down in the first half.

The Croatian international has averaged 2.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 1 clearance per game, according to Whoscored. His numbers have been better than Liverpool’s Fabinho, who has registered 2.3 tackles, 1.1 interception and 0.6 clearances per game. Brozovic’s versatile nature of play would be beneficial for the manager as well.
