Why Leicester should snap up Adam Lallana on a free transfer

According to Daily Star, Leicester City have made Liverpool star Adam Lallana their top transfer target ahead of the summer. And, the report also suggests that he would not play hereafter for the Reds.

Lallana, 32, came through the ranks of Southampton’s youth system and made 261 appearances for the Saints senior squad. He then signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2014 and was a regular member of the squad until a hamstring injury cut-short his game time in the 2017/18 season.

He has fallen down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp and has featured in a limited number of games in each of the last three campaigns. Lallana’s contract with the club is set to expire in the summer and it would be a wise decision by the Foxes to get him on a free transfer.

Lallana could add depth to Leicester creative department

James Maddison and Bartosz Kapustka are the only two attacking midfielders available at the manager’s disposal. However, Kapustka has seen limited game time and is inexperienced. He has not featured in any league game so far and it would be difficult for him next season.

On the other hand, Maddison, who started the season on a bright note, has been left out of the squad for the last four league games. Moreover, the English youngster has been linked with a move away from the club. If this happens, the Foxes would be left without a creative spark in their ranks. Thus, an attacking midfielder is a must in the summer.

To that end, signing Lallana on a free transfer would help the creative department. The 31-year-old has enough experience at the highest level and could bring in some of his best qualities to Leicester’s squad.

He can operate from anywhere in the midfield and also from the wide areas.  In 178 games for the Reds, Lallana has 22 goals and assists each to his name and could provide the Foxes with something in the final third.

Though he has not played for the majority of this season, he has made an impact while coming from the bench on several occasions, and that is evident from the game against Manchester United earlier in the campaign where he scored a last-minute equalizer for the Reds.

The English international has made over 440 club appearances and his experience could be a massive boost for the squad.

Verdict

Lallana has been deprived of opportunities this season and with Leicester, he could revive his career. At the same time, the Foxes lack depth in their creative department and the former Southampton star could provide them with some much-needed quality. Thus, bringing him to King Power Stadium would be a wise decision by the club.
