Why Leicester City should plot a move for Alex Telles in the summer

As per For Four Two (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City are interested in the highly-rated Brazilian left-back Alex Telles.

Telles, 27, came through the youth ranks of Juventude and moved to Turkey with Galatasaray in 2014. Two years later, Portuguese giants, FC Porto signed him and he is currently in his fourth season at the club.

He has been a regular starter since his arrival in Portugal and has taken great strides in his development. The former Gremio man has made 182 appearances for Porto, racking up 21 goals and 52 assists in the process. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed as Chelsea are also in the race to sign him, as per the report.

Meanwhile, Leicester City have seen a dip in their form after starting the season on a bright note. Though they occupy 3rd spot in the league table, Brendan Rodgers’ men have been inconsistent in recent weeks, with just two wins out of their last eight league games.

The Foxes are hoping to qualify for the Champions League and the manager should make sure that he has a full-strength squad in order for them to go as far as possible in the European competition. One of the key areas that need to be strengthened is the left-back position, where Ben Chilwell and Christian Fuchs are the only players available.

While Fuchs has just a few months left in his contract with the club, Ben Chilwell has been linked with Chelsea. The Englishman has been excellent for the Foxes but if a top club manages to lure him away, the Foxes would be left empty-handed in the left-back area. Hence, it would be good if Rodgers acts quickly and brings in Alex Telles.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form for Porto, helping the club reach the top of the table in Liga NOS. He has managed 39 appearances this season so far, scoring 10 goals and providing 9 assists. This shows that he is capable of making a huge impact while joining the attack.

A left-back by trade, Telles has proved his worth while being deployed in the midfield and also in the left-wing position. His versatile nature could be helpful for Rodgers as the manager can use him in different positions according to the situation.

His impressive performances have also earned him a call up to the Brazilian national squad as he made his international debut in March last year. He has improved a lot from the previous campaign, where he provided 8 assists in the league after accumulating 14 in the season before that.

Verdict

With both of Leicester’s left-backs’ future in doubt, the Foxes must bring in reinforcements and add depth to the squad. And Telles has shown his ability to perform at a higher level. He would certainly add quality to the team.

Hence, Leicester should secure the services of the Brazilian and lure him to England.
