Why Leicester agreeing on fresh terms with James Maddison is a good move
According to The Telegraph, James Maddison is on the verge of agreeing to a new contract with Leicester City, with the club keen to conclude talks over the mid-winter break.
The report also claims that Leicester intend to award the midfielder with improved terms due to his progress over the last 18 months. Maddison’s performances also earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s national squad. In fact, he made his debut against Montenegro in the European Qualifiers.
Maddison, 23, came through the ranks of Coventry City’s youth system and moved to Norwich City in 2016. He also enjoyed a loan spell at Aberdeen before the Foxes signed him in the summer of 2018.
In 68 games for the Foxes, the youngster has scored 16 goals while providing 10 assists. He has been excellent this season, helping the club in their hopes of qualifying for the Champion League next season.
The Englishman has been a regular for the Foxes. Last year, he played 36 league games and established himself as one of the most promising attacking midfielders in the country. He has also played in all but one league this term.
Brendan Rodgers’ men have endured a brilliant start to the season and they have performed well in all the departments. Despite being outperformed in the last few games, Leicester are currently third in the league standings.
Maddison, along with Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes, has brought a change in their attacking unit. Predominantly an attacking midfielder, the 23-year-old has featured on other areas of the pitch too. He has played as a left-winger in a few games and is strong on the left side. Therefore, Leicester agreeing on a new lucrative deal for their star player is a move in the right direction.
The report suggests that the former Norwich City man has three years left on his current contract at the King Power Stadium.

The 23-year-old has gone from strength-to-strength and his importance for Leicester has also grown in the past year. Therefore, offering Maddison a new deal is a good move by the club.
