Why Leeds United should progress in their pursuit of Said Benrahma

According to The Mirror, Leeds United are keen on signing Brentford star Said Benrahma. The winger is valued at £25m by his club.

Benrahma, 24, spent time at the academies of Balma FC and US Colomiers before rising through the ranks of Nice’s youth system. However, he spent most of his Nice career on loan before joining the Championship side in the summer of 2018.

He has been one of the best players in the second tier since last season, helping his side qualify for the Championship play-off final this season, which they eventually lost to Fulham. The Algerian has been in sensational form and Leeds should take the opportunity to sign him at the earliest.

The Whites have managed to lift the Championship title and have been promoted to the top-flight after 16 years. Marcelo Bielsa has done a solid job since taking over the reins at Elland Road and could lead them to greater heights in the Premier League.

However, for Leeds to sustain and survive in the first division, the manager should bring in reinforcements and add depth to the squad. They have limited options in several key areas and thus, signing new faces could help them return to their best.

Leeds could benefit from Benrahma’s consistency and productivity

Though Leeds managed to score 77 goals in the Championship, they did it with limited options in their attacking unit. Patrick Bamford is their only established striker, whereas in the wide areas, Helder Costa and Ivan Poveda are the only two permanent options available at the manager’s disposal.

Jack Harrison could be available on loan for another season, as per Daily Mail. However, they could still struggle in the top-flight without adequate options. In that regard, making a move for Benrahma seems to be a smart one. The Algerian has already established himself in English football and seems to be at the right time of his life to take a huge stride into the Premier League.

In his debut season with the Bees, he managed to score 10 goals and provide 15 assists. He has taken his game to the next level this season, contributing with 17 goals and 9 assists. His goalscoring ability should be seen as a huge bonus by the Whites. They lack depth in the attacking unit and Benrahma could provide them with some much-needed quality upfront.

His inclusion would definitely bring healthy competition to the squad and that could be helpful for the club moving forward. They can rely on his productivity as he has already shown immense desire of being able to help with not only providing assists but also by getting his name on the score sheet.

With Brentford failing to qualify for the top-flight, Leeds should take advantage of the situation and manage to lure Benrahma to Elland Road. He could provide them with depth and quality up front and could also go on to represent them in the long run if he is able to continue with the same form.
