Why Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona would boost their attacking unit

According to Marca, Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is willing to move to Barcelona in the summer as the La Liga giants are interested in signing him.

Martinez, 22, earned a move to Inter Milan in the summer of 2018 after impressing with Racing Club in his final season, scoring 13 league goals. Though he was not a regular starter in his debut season at San Siro, he has emerged as one of the hottest properties in Europe this term.

The Argentine has received rave reviews for his clinical performances and had also attracted interest from European giants Real Madrid and Manchester City, as per the report. And this summer would be a huge opportunity for Barcelona to cash in on the youngster.

Despite reaching the top of the La Liga standings, the Catalans have struggled with inconsistency throughout the campaign. Their performance in the first half of the season saw Ernesto Valverde lose his job and star player Lionel Messi has been the only player making an impact for the team.

However, with the new season coming in no time, the manager should bring in reinforcements to the squad. Though there are some big names in their attacking unit, the Catalans have found it difficult in the absence of Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in 17 games before he picked up a season-ending injury. Summer signing Antoine Griezmann has also failed to live up to the expectations and Martin Brathwaite was signed in February to replace Suarez. But the Danish international hasn’t made a big difference.

Therefore, Barcelona boss Setien should add firepower to their attacking unit in the form of Inter Milan’s young forward Martinez.

Martinez has improved a lot after failing to impress last season. He has already racked up 16 goals and 4 assists in 31 games across all competitions and had formed a strong partnership with Romelu Lukaku. Given his lethal finishing prowess, he is capable of becoming the heir to Suarez at Camp Nou.

The Argentine international has been consistent throughout the campaign and has single-handedly won several games for Antonio Conte’s side. And if he is capable of reproducing the same form, he would be a valuable addition to Barcelona’s squad.

With Suarez soon to become 34 in January and a lack of strikers up front, Barcelona should get their hands on Martinez to lead their attack. He is just 22 and could be their player in the long run.
