Why Jadon Sancho to Barcelona would make them powerful in attack
According to Bild (h/t The Metro), Barcelona have joined the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho in the summer.
Sancho, 20, is a product of Manchester City’s youth academy. He was released by the English champions and was signed by Dortmund in the summer of 2017. Since then, he has become a regular member of the squad.
The youngster has gone on to establish himself as one of the best wingers in Europe. And he is one of the most sought after talents.
His impressive performances have attracted the attention of several clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid, as per the report. Thus, Barcelona should make an attempt to secure his services this summer.
Despite being atop the league table, the Catalan giants have been inconsistent throughout the campaign. Their lacklustre performances earlier in the campaign saw Ernesto Valverde get sacked. Apart from Lionel Messi, none has come to the fore.
The injury to Luiz Suarez has been one of the reasons for their struggle. The attack has failed and the defensive unit has not been up to the mark either. Barcelona’s midfield has also failed on several occasions, with the likes of Ivan Rakitic not getting enough opportunities.
Quique Setien’s side, though they are on top of the league table, have failed to dominate this season as they were in the previous title-winning campaigns. Thus, it is obvious that the manager should bring in reinforcements to key areas if they are to do well in further campaigns.
Sancho could improve Barcelona’s attack in the future
One of the key areas Setien should focus on strengthening is the wide areas. Antoine Griezmann was brought in last summer to add firepower to their attack but the Frenchman has failed to live up to the expectations. Ansu Fati is just starting his career and cannot be depended upon.
In that regard, signing Sancho would help them a lot. The English star is one of the most coveted players in Europe at the moment. Since leaving Manchester City in 2017, he has grown into one of the best talents.
Last season, he contributed to 29 goals (12 goals and 17 assists) in the Bundesliga and has continued with the same form this term. He has already racked up 14 goals and 16 assists in 23 league games and has gone from strength to strength.
Sancho has the ability to add firepower to any team’s attack and could be a huge boost to the Catalans. He would undoubtedly add quality to their attack and it’s evident from his numbers so far.
Verdict
At 20, he has already proved his importance to Dortmund and with experience, he would only get better. Barcelona are in dire need of attackers to carry them forward in the future. Thus, they should fight hard to lure Sancho to Camp Nou this summer.
