As per reports from the Daily Express, Scottish giants Rangers are eyeing a loan move for Liverpool wonderkid Ben Woodburn in the summer.
The Gers appointed former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard as their new manager in the off-season and are hoping that the Reds legend would use his contacts with the club to try and lure the Welsh attacker to tbe Ibrox this summer, as they look to build a side strong enough to topple arch-rivals Celtic.
The 18-year-old Woodburn is regarded as one of the brightest young players at Liverpool and has been tipped for a bright future in the game.
Having been with the Merseyside outfit’s academy since 2007, he made his senior debut in November 2016, in a Premier League encounter against Sunderland which the Reds won 2-0.
Three days later, Woodburn scored his first goal for the club, in a 2-0 triumph over Leeds United in the EFL Cup, becoming the youngest ever goalscorer for Liverpool, at the age of 17 years 01 month and 14 days.
Till date, the talented youngster has gone on to make 11 appearances for Klopp’s side with his strike against Leeds being the only goal he has scored.
In the recently concluded season, Woodburn made just two appearances for the Liverpool senior team, one each in the league and the Carabao Cup.
However, he continued to impress with the U23s in the Premier League 2, where he scored and assisted two goals apiece in 9 fixtures, while he also had a good run with the U19s in the UEFA Youth League, captaining the team and chipping in with 2 goals and 2 assists as the Reds made it to the quarterfinals.
Despite his limited appearance for the first team this season, Woodburn remains one of the brightest talents at Liverpool and is highly thought of by the management of the Wales national team as well.
The 18-year-old is the 9th youngest player to have made his debut for Wales and till date, has represented his country 7 times, finding the back of the net on one occasion, which came on his debut against Austria.
Predominantly a winger, the teenager can easily play in the No.10 role and has shown that he is equally comfortable in central midfield as well.
Blessed with great pace and technical ability, Woodburn is an intelligent, versatile, fleet-footed player with an attacking mindset and has demonstrated that he has a keen eye for the goal as well.
Those are some qualities that Rangers could definitely do with next season if they are to put up a better fight in the Scottish Premiership.
He may be thought of very highly at Liverpool but first-team chances are unlikely to come anytime soon for the Welsh international, given the plethora of options Klopp has at his disposal. Rangers need to capitalise on that and sign him on a temporary deal for the upcoming season.
The fact that Woodburn has already worked with Gerrard for the U19s in the 2017/18 UEFA Youth League should make it even easier for the Gers to make a decision on Woodburn.
