Why Habib Diallo would be a fantastic fit at Tottenham

According to Football.london, Tottenham are interested in signing Metz star Habib Diallo ahead of the new campaign.

The report suggests that the Lilywhites have been keen on the striker for a long time and he is one of their main targets this summer. It is also claimed that the Senegal international is also keen to link up with Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

Born in Senegal, Diallo spent time at the academy of Generation Foot before joining Metz’s B side back in 2013. He was then sent on two different loan spells to Stade Brest to improve with regular game time and returned to his parent club in the summer of 2018.

Since then, he has been an integral member of the squad and scored 26 goals in the 2018/19 campaign to help the French outfit get promoted to the top flight. He continued with the fine form and scored 12 goals from 26 games in the 2019/20 league campaign.

He has also been capped 4 times by Senegal to date.

Why Tottenham need Diallo

Harry Kane has been Tottenham’s talisman so far and has shouldered the burden of scoring goals for his side in the last few years without a proper backup. After deciding to sell Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente last summer, the North Londoners failed to bring in a backup for Kane.

Tottenham struggled when Kane was on the sidelines due to an injury. Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min were deployed as centre-forwards but that didn’t help their cause. Thus, the Lilywhites should consider bringing in a striker this summer.

In that regard, Diallo would be a terrific signing for the club. The Senegalese international did a decent job in Ligue 1 last season for a team that finished 15th. Thus, he can be a valuable addition to the squad.

The 25-year-old is not only capable of being a backup but he can also bring in healthy competition to Kane for the first-choice spot.

Verdict

At 25, Diallo is at the right time of his life to take the next step in is career. He would provide some much-needed quality and depth to Jose Mourinho’s attacking unit and can go on to represent them in the long run. Thus, they should attempt to lure the Senegalese to North London this summer.
