Why Ferran Torres would be a fantastic piece of investment for Liverpool

According to Football Espana (h/t Daily Mirror), former Valencia sporting director Fernando Gomez feels that Ferran Torres would be an ideal fit at Liverpool.

Torres, regarded as one of the brightest young stars in La Liga has been excellent this season, making 35 appearances across all competitions for Valencia. The 20-year-old has also contributed to his side with 6 goals and 7 assists altogether, attracting the interests of clubs like Liverpool and Barcelona.

After impressing with 24 league appearances last season, the young winger has quickly established himself as one of the regulars in Albert Celades’ side this term. Torres, who is enjoying a breakthrough campaign this season at the Mestalla, has turned out to be a vital member of their squad that he even appeared in 6 of their 8 Champions League outings.

A Valencia academy graduate, the youngster has already made 88 appearances for them and has 9 goals and 11 assists to his credit. Meanwhile, Torres’ on-field displays have been so good that his club’s former sporting director Gomez has tipped him to be an ideal fit at Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Torres a good future investment for Liverpool

Liverpool have plenty of talent in the attack, with forwards Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah emerging as one of the best in Europe.

The trio played a major role in the Reds’ Champions League success last year and has helped them to the top of the table this season before play got suspended due to coronavirus crisis. Wing-forwards Salah and Mane, have together scored 30 of their overall 66 league goals this time, making them Liverpool’s undisputed first-choice regulars in their respective roles.

Liverpool also have talented stars such as Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino waiting in the wings to nail down a first-team spot. However, the dominance of Salah and Mane has been to such an extent that chances have been increasingly limited for even Shaqiri and Minamino.

Torres’ chances of making regular appearances at Liverpool would be few with the likes of Mane, Salah, Shaqiri and Minamino already in the squad. However, considering his talent, Torres can slowly establish himself if he manages to impress Klopp.

Considering this, Liverpool must continue their pursuit of the talented winger. Moreover, having played these many games for Valencia at the highest level, Torres could be an excellent future investment for the Reds.
