Why Everton should make a move for Adam Marusic

As per Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are interested in signing Lazio midfielder Adam Marusic in the summer.

Marusic, 27, came through the youth ranks of Vozdovac’s youth system in Serbia and moved to Belgium. In the summer of 2017, Lazio signed him after a few impressive displays. He has gone on to become a regular member of the squad and has been impressive in the last two campaigns.

A talented midfielder, Marusic was instrumental in helping Lazio claim the Italian Super Cup in the 2018/19 season. Though he has struggled this season with limited game time, he is highly regarded. Thus, Everton should make a move for him this summer.

The Toffees, meanwhile, have struggled throughout the campaign. Their performances earlier in the campaign saw Marco Silva lose his job as they were hovering around the relegation zone. They did better after Duncan Ferguson took charge but couldn’t continue with the positive results.

Apart from Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, none of them has impressed. The defence has been shaky and has failed to put in a good display. For the majority of the campaigns, the Toffees have been on the backfoot and currently find themselves at 13th place in the league standings.

Thus, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti should bring in reinforcements to the squad if they are to progress in the near future. The manager should make sure that they are well equipped in every department.

Marusic could bring stability to Everton’s midfield

One of the major reasons for their lacklustre performance is the incompetent nature of the midfielders. Tom Davies, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Gomes are the three attack-minded midfielders. Throughout the season, they have managed to score just 2 goals and provide the same number of assists from the middle of the park.

Thus, to improve their creativity, Ancelotti should make a move for in-form midfielders in the summer. In that regard, signing Marusic would be a boost to the squad. The Montenegro international has been in sublime form for Lazio in the past two years and has the ability to succeed at a high level.

In his first season in Italy, he scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in the league. It is evident that he is a goalscoring midfielder, something Everton have lacked this term. His inclusion would bring healthy competition within the squad and the midfielder could go on to be a crucial player for the Toffees if it clicks.

Verdict

It is clear that Everton lack goalscoring midfielders. They also have limited options in midfield, which could be a hindrance to their progress next campaign. Thus, making a move for Marusic would be a wise decision and they should lure him to Goodison Park in the summer.
