Why Dennis Gyamfi would be a future investment for Rangers

According to Daily Record, Rangers are plotting a raid on Leicester City youngster Dennis Gyamfi ahead of the summer transfer window.

Gyamfi, 18, was promoted to Leicester U18 side in the summer of 2018 and has been one of the best players in the squad. He has also represented the Netherlands in the youth levels and is eligible to represent Ghana in the future.

The teenager’s scholarship contract with the Foxes is set to expire in the summer and he would become a free agent, as per the report. And several clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United and Feyenoord are chasing the youngster. Thus, Rangers should make a move for Gyamfi with a view for the future.

The Gers, meanwhile, have once again succumbed to defeat in the title race to rivals Celtic. Despite Steven Gerrard’s men put up a good show earlier in the campaign but they failed to carry the momentum until the end.

Thus, they must bring in reinforcements to the squad if they have to put an end to Celtic’s dominance in the coming years. And with a view of the financial crisis caused by the pandemic, it would be wise of Rangers to invest in youth.

Gyamfi – A future solution at right-back for Rangers

After the departure of Jon Flanagan, Rangers have only one recognized right-back in James Tavernier. The Englishman has been the first-choice in this position for a long time and has been consistent over the years.

However, without a proper right-back, it would be difficult for the Gers to manage. And with Matt Polster having just one year left on his contract at Ibrox, signing a young right-back would do them a world of good.

In that regard, Gyamfi would be a suitable option for the Scottish giants. Though he hasn’t featured in Leicester City’s first-team, his performances with the youth squads have been impressive. He could be a huge boost to Gerrard’s squad in the future if he develops well. The teenager has all the qualities to succeed at a high level and could even replace Tavernier once he gains experience.

Verdict

Though he might not be able to walk straight into Gerrard’s starting XI, Gyamfi could progress slowly. And investing in a youngster could also help the club reap awards in the future. Thus, they should lure the teenager to Ibrox this summer.
