Why Chelsea signing Paulo Dybala would be a waste of resources
According to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t ESPN), Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Paulo Dybala at Juventus. It is believed that the Argentine is not in the plans of new manager Andrea Pirlo and hasn’t been able to force his way into the team with his performances. The Blues are hoping to nab him in a cut-price deal.

Dybala, 26, came through the youth ranks of Instituto Cordoba and joined Italian side Palermo in 2012. His impressive performance with the club earned him a move to Turin with Juventus, where he established himself as one of the best forwards in Europe.
He scored regularly at a decent rate in his first four years with the Old Lady. But his form took a dip last season but has taken his game to the next level under Maurizio Sarri, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists in 35 games across all competitions (source – Transfermarkt).
He is yet to play a single game this season. The forward has featured 29 times for his national side, scoring twice.
Why Chelsea would be better off without Dybala
Chelsea are coming on the back of a huge spending spree which saw the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell arrive at Stamford Bridge. The problem though, is that they have failed to clear out players they didn’t need. Now they have an oversized squad for the time being.
Dybala’s best position is as a second striker. He performs best with a centre-forward ahead of him. Chelsea, on the other hand, don’t deploy a formation that uses a second striker. They usually use a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.
Moreover, Chelsea’s front four is likely to be Pulisic, Werner, Ziyech and Havertz. There are hardly any chances of any of these four getting dropped unless there are injuries or bad form. Not only would Dybala have to compete with so many players, but he would also have to play out of position in the event that he does feature.

It hardly makes sense for Chelsea to spend on a player who doesn’t suit their style of play and might not make it straight into their starting 11. They should avoid a move for the Juventus star and save their resources to maybe recruit a defensive player.
