Why Chelsea should re-sign Jeremie Boga in the summer

As per Tuttomercatoweb via Sport Witness (h/t Football.london), Chelsea are interested in re-signing academy graduate Jeremie Boga, who currently piles his trade with Sassuolo in the Serie A.

Boga, 23, joined Sassuolo from Chelsea in 2018 after failing to break into the Blues starting XI. Despite struggling initially, he has now settled in at the Mapei Stadium. In fact, he has become a key player for the Italian outfit.

The Ivorian has bagged 6 goals and provided 3 assists in 21 appearances, helping Sassuolo to 13th place in the league standings so far this season. And the report adds that Chelsea have the option to re-sign him for £12.7m, with Barcelona also interested in him.

Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s side are in dire need of attacking reinforcements as they failed to sign quality forwards last month. The game against Leicester City showed the need to strengthen their attacking unit as none of the frontmen made an impact.

However, a lack of options on the left side of the pitch has prompted the manager to start several different players on the flanks.

On the right side, Pedro has fallen down the pecking order and Willian has not productive enough. And Tammy Abraham is the only striker who has done his best.

While Christian Pulisic and Calum Hudson-Odoi are also at Lampard’s disposal, the other attacking options haven’t been up to the mark. Hence, Chelsea must go for Jeremie Boga to improve the depth in their squad.

Predominantly a left-winger, Boga is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder and also as a second striker. He has been in fine form for Sassuolo this season, having already crossed his tally of 3 goals and one assist from the previous campaign.

The 23-year-old’s versatility would come in handy for the manager, as he is comfortable on both sides of the pitch. Alongside Abraham, Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi, the Blues would have an exciting front line if they are able to lure Boga back to England.

Verdict

The Ivory Coast international has done well in Sassuolo colours this season and that should prompt Chelsea to bring back their youth product in the summer. All in all, this has the makings of a brilliant deal for the Blues.
