Why Chelsea must ditch their pursuit of Maurizio Sarri and sign Joachim Low

Ever since the transfer window commenced, there have been reports circulating about Maurizio Sarri’s impending move to Chelsea. However, Blues owner Roman Abramovich may reject this deal since they must adhere to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Hiring Sarri, however, would require the Blues to shell out a fee in the region of £5.3m per year for a period of three years. This could lead to a lack of budget for signing new players. In fact, to bring Sarri to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea might have to sell certain players.

Therefore, it might be best for the Chelsea hierarchy to abandon Sarri’s pursuit. However, if they do not want Antonio Conte to manage their team next season, they might benefit by offering German manager Joachim Low a deal. After all, reports do suggest that the Die Mannschaft manager has a chance of getting the Stamford Bridge job.

Why Low is a better option

The German is an experienced manager with a high-profile CV of winning a World Cup and reaching semi-finals of several mega competitions. He has been Germany’s manager since 2006 but moving to a club job might be a tantalizing prospect for Low.

Low is severe in his approach and can often extract the best out of certain players. His appointment could prevent high-profile Chelsea players from indulging in a mass exodus this summer. Furthermore, the Blues have been targeting a move for Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich to replace Alvaro Morata. Low’s presence might also help the club in their pursuit of the Polish striker.

The Verdict

Even though the 58-year-old has had a mediocre past year or two with Germany, he has the know-how and tactical brain to make a strong comeback. He may need some time to rebuild the Chelsea squad but once that is done, the Blues can expect a lot of good things. The German can work with various formations and given his effortless strategies, the Premier League giants could work wonders with Low at the helm.
