Why Chelsea loaning out Kenedy makes perfect sense for all parties

Kenedy has joined Granada on a season-long loan as confirmed by Chelsea’s official website. This will be his second loan spell in Spain after spending last season at Getafe.

The 24-year-old Kenedy started his career at local club Santarritense before moving to Friburguense and Vasco Da Gama. He finally settled in at Fluminense in 2009 and progressed through their youth teams.

Chelsea came for his signature in 2015 and the Brazilian obliged. He made a bright start for the Blues as he made 20 appearances in his first season.

When Antonio Conte came in and rejigged the system, Kenedy was loaned out to Watford. But that was cut short as he returned midway through the season. He managed to make a grand total of 3 appearances in 2016-17.

After that, two separate loan spells at Newcastle followed and he looked to have finally established himself. In 41 games, he scored and assisted 3 goals each. Last year, he made the move to Getafe after returning from Newcastle and was a part of the side that finished 8th in the league.

Why the deal is a win-win for all parties

Granada have made it to the qualifying rounds of the Europa League and they will need all the reinforcements they can get. Kenedy comes with bags of experience in the Premier League and La Liga. Chelsea have had a summer spending spree and logically, there was no way Kenedy could break into the first-team.

Verdict

A loan deal works in these economic climates as Granada aren’t a club blessed with billions. For Chelsea, it just represents another loan deal in a long list of players heading out on temporary moves.

It is the player, however, who will benefit the most from this move as he will get a chance to play regularly. There is no doubt he is a talented player who can add some attacking flair to any team. It’s just unfortunate that it won’t be at Chelsea.

Granada have some very good players that can help Kenedy flourish and perform to his best of abilities. He is sure to get a lot more chances in the coming season as Granada might get to play in the Europa League too.
