Why Celtic should invest in Lewis Ferguson for the future

Former Celtic man Mark Wilson has tipped the club to make a move for Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson in the summer, as per The Sun.

Ferguson, 20, started out at the Rangers academy and moved to Hamilton Academical’s youth setup in 2013. After impressing with the U20 side, he was promoted to the first team in January 2017. Eighteen months later, Aberdeen signed the youngster and since then, he has become an integral member of the club.

The youngster has displayed notable performances belying his tender age and has also coped with the pressures of playing at a higher level at just the age of 20. He is also a regular member of the Scottish U21 side and is one of the exciting young talents in the country.

The Hoops, meanwhile, have been excellent throughout the campaign. Neil Lennon’s men have been dominant in the league as they were in the previous campaigns and are on course to lift yet another league title.

They are atop the Premiership table with 13 points ahead of fierce rivals Rangers after already having already won the League Cup. They are also in contention for the Scottish FA Cup.

However, with the pandemic creating a ruckus in the finances of several clubs, it would be good to bring in youngsters for the future. Celtic boss Lennon has managed to put together a perfect unit but they should look to invest in youngsters to build a team for the future.

Lewis Ferguson – A future midfield mainstay for Celtic?

Celtic have a plethora of midfielders in their ranks in Scott Brown, Olivier Ntcham, Callum McGregor. All of them have given their best throughout the season.

However, Brown is already 34 and reaching the tail-end of his career. Thus, Lennon should look to recruit a young and in-form midfielder in the next season.

In that regard, signing Ferguson from Aberdeen would do them a world of good. The Scotsman has also got enough experience in the Premiership. In 28 league games this term, he has racked up 1 goal and 5 assists, helping his side to the fourth place in the standings.

Ferguson’s inclusion in Lennon’s squad would definitely bring in a healthy competition, whilst also adding the depth to the midfield department. The youngster has all the qualities to succeed and would be valuable if he is able to keep up with the good form.

At 20, Ferguson has a huge future ahead of him and moving to Celtic Park would help him progress in his career. At the same time, the Hoops would also benefit from him in the future once he has enough experience. Thus, they should attempt to lure Ferguson to Glasgow in the summer.
