Why Bournemouth have struck gold by completing a deal for David Brooks
David Brooks was one of the standout performers in the Championship last season. In fact, he was one of Sheffield United’s brightest stars and played a key role in helping them finish 10th. He is undoubtedly destined for greater things in his career and it was quite unsurprising to see Bournemouth snap him once the transfer window commenced.
Now, with the new Premier League season almost upon us, it will be interesting to see how the youngster fares in the English top-flight.
Bournemouth finished 12th last season but Eddie Howe’s men must aim for more as they get set to head into the new term.
The Cherries are capable of making a push for a spot in the top-ten, having significantly strengthened their squad in key areas. But more than any other new arrival, Brooks has the ability to turn the club’s fortunes. The 21-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade and he chipped in with 3 goals and 6 assists in 33 appearances for the Blades last season.
His strength while taking set-pieces is truly commendable and the player’s dribbling skills are top-notch as well. Adept at supply key passes to fuel the attackers up front, Brooks seems to have a penchant for playing short passes to maintain fluidity in the game.
However, the youngster, who has signed for Bournemouth in a £12m deal, does have a few weaknesses. For example, he must work towards improving his composure and discipline on the field – particularly if he is to get off to a good start in the Premier League.
Given Brooks’s skills, he would be a great fit for Bournemouth’s attacking set-up under Howe. He will bring in some much-needed pace and guile in the final third as he thrives in areas between the midfield and the attack.
However, the player must compete with the likes of Joshua King, Junior Stanislas and Jordan Ibe for a spot in the starting XI. But whenever he does play, Brooks is capable of providing adequate creative supply for the likes of Callum Wilson and Jermain Defoe up front.

Both strikers are known to often run in behind the opposition defence and Brooks has the skills required to find them and supply a key pass or two. Hence, with the former Sheffield United star in the mix, Bournemouth look set to achieve great things this season.
