Why Barcelona have made a good future signing in Francisco Trincao
According to Fcbarcelona.com, Barcelona and Portuguese outfit SC Braga have agreed to a deal for youngster Francisco Trincao, who is set to join the Catalans in the summer of 2020.
The report also suggests that Trincao will join Barcelona on a five-year deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2024/25 season. And the contract has been agreed to for €31m.
Trincao, 20, came through the ranks of FC Porto and Braga’s youth system. He was promoted to the former’s senior team in the summer of 2018 and has made 30 appearances for the club’s first-team squad.
The youngster won the European U19 Championship with Portugal and was the top scorer of the tournament in 2018. He has also scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists for his club so far.
Meanwhile, Barcelona showed a slight dip in their form earlier this month when they lost the Spanish Super Cup semi-final to Atletico Madrid under Ernesto Valverde. And eventually, the former Valencia boss lost his job.
The appointment of Quique Setien has so far yielded good results except for the 2-0 loss against Valencia, which saw them drop below Real Madrid in the La Liga table. The loss of Luiz Suarez to injury has also put the manager in deep trouble.
Winger Ousmane Dembele has always been troubled by injuries and the Spanish giants have addressed the need by agreeing on a deal for Francisco Trincao. The Portugal U21 international is capable of playing forward on either side of the pitch.
Trincao can be used on the right side of the pitch if Lionel Messi is used in a central position. The report also suggests that he is quick and technically gifted and if he develops under the guidance of Setien, he can become a key player for Barcelona in the future.
Verdict
Though much is not known of the youngster, a club of Barcelona’s stature splashing big on the player speaks of his potential. Therefore, by signing him, the Catalan giants have done well to improve their attacking ranks for the future.
