Why Arsenal should return for Joan Jordan next summer

According to Calciomercato (h/t Mirror), Arsenal could be handed another chance to sign Joan Jordan. The midfielder was linked to the Gunners at the start of the transfer window but Sevilla’s €30m price tag meant that no transfer went ahead. With negotiations still happening, a summer move for next season could be on the cards.

Arsenal need to refresh their midfield options next season

A seven-game unbeaten run in the league might have somewhat eased the issues at the club and rightly so. The new setup under Arteta is flourishing and the club looks back to normal. Emile Smith Rowe has done well in the meantime, flourishing as a playmaker.

Mikel Arteta seems to have found a temporary fix for the problems plaguing Arsenal. It is only in the recent games that Arsenal have started to find some goals as well as points. Nonetheless, long-standing creative issues still remain.

Personnel were shuffled with Mesut Ozil departing for Fenerbahce and Martin Odegaard arriving on loan. While the creative department looks decent now, Arteta would be wide to re-evaluate his other midfield options at the end of the season so as to not have a repeat of this season’s start.

Joan Jordan can be an excellent addition to the side

A look at Arsenal’s deeper lying midfielders tells one thing. Thomas Partey looks well set after an injury layoff while Mohamed Elneny is a handy customer to have in the ranks. Granit Xhaka sticks out like a sore thumb though. The Swiss is a rash player often having a history of going in for rough challenges.

Over the next summer, an upgrade should be made and Joan Jordan represents a good option in that area. While essentially a combative box-to-box midfielder, the Spaniard also excels with his passing vision and ability to switch the play. A good shooter from distance, he is also capable of creating chances from dead-ball situations.

Joan Jordan ticks plenty of boxes at the Emirates as a dynamic midfielder with a wide range of qualities. The Spaniard has been a consistent performer in his homeland over the past few years while he also proved his worth in Sevilla’s Europa League triumph last time around.

Jordan still potentially has his best years ahead of him at 26, meaning Arsenal shouldn’t hesitate to pay the €30m demanded by Sevilla next summer.
