Why Arsenal keeping hold of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be smart

According to Evening Standard, Barcelona have confirmed their interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after failing to sign him last month. The report also suggests that the La Liga giants tracked him during the transfer window and have confirmed that he could be on their shopping list in the summer.

Aubameyang, 30, has established himself as one of the deadliest strikers across Europe after failing to breakthrough at AC Milan in the initial stages. He joined St. Etienne initially on loan and scored 41 goals in 97 appearances for the French outfit.

The Gabonese was then snapped by Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2013. He became a key member of the squad, banging in goals regularly for five seasons. In 213 appearances for BVB, Aubameyang found the back of the 141 times, making him the fifth-highest scorer in the club’s history.

After five successful years in Germany, Aubameyang moved to England with Arsenal. He been a great asset to the team and has been handed the armband this term.

Despite the Gunners enduring a poor season, the 30-year-old has been doing his job perfectly, having already scored 16 goals in all competitions so far. And Arsenal cannot afford to lose their world-class player in the summer.

Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette has seen a dip in his form this season and if they let Aubameyang leave, Arsenal will not have any established player to lead their attack. They need to make some reinforcements to their defensive unit but at the same time, the Gunners must bring in a player to support the star striker whenever needed.

The Gabon international has shown no signs of slowing down, despite entering his 30s. He still has the energy to lead the attack and even picked up the Golden Boot last season.

Therefore, Arsenal must avoid any kind of temptation for their leader and keep him at the club for as long as possible.
