Why Andrea Belotti would be a fantastic signing for Everton

As per La Repubblica (h/t Daily Mail), Everton are eyeing a summer swoop for Torino forward Andrea Belotti in the upcoming transfer window.

Belotti, 26, came through the ranks of AlbinoLeffe’s youth system and joined Palermo initially on loan in 2013. In two seasons for Palermo, he scored 16 league goals and was signed by Torino in the summer of 2015 as a result of his impressive performances.

Since moving to Turin, he has established himself as one of the best strikers in Italy. He has been consistent over the past few years and has attracted interest from several clubs including Napoli, Fiorentina, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, as per the report. Thus, Everton should make a prompt attempt to sign the centre-forward.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have endured a disappointing campaign so far. They have been knocked out of the other cup competitions, whilst also finding themselves in 12th position in the league. And it is going to be a tough task if they are to qualify for the Europa League when the seasons resume.

As a unit, Everton have failed miserably. They did seem to get going after the arrival of the Italian manager but the results didn’t last long. Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been the lone warriors in team, while the defence and midfield have been poor.

They have conceded 50 goals in 29 games, which doesn’t sound good for a team of their calibre. Thus, the manager should make sure they are well equipped to challenge for various titles in the next campaign.

Belotti could add firepower to Everton’s attack

While defensive reinforcements are necessary for the Toffees, the manager should also look to bring in centre-forwards to boost their attacking options. Calvert-Lewin, Moise Kean, Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse are the four strikers available at the manager’s disposal.

While the English forward has been brilliant throughout the campaign, none of the others has been supportive up front. Kean has struggled to live up to the expectations and Tosun has endured an injury-hit campaign. And Niasse could move away from the club once his contract expires in the summer. Thus, a striker is a must in the summer.

In that regard, Belotti would be a smart signing for Everton. The Italian has scored more than 10 goals in each of his last five league campaigns, with 26 goals in the 2016/17 season. He has continued at the top of his game despite the team’s abysmal performance and could be a useful player alongside Calvert-Lewin next season if the Toffees sign him.

Verdict

Everton have only one in-form striker at the moment and it is clear that they need an experienced centre-forward. And Belotti could form a strong partnership with the English striker if he continues with the same form. He is just 26 and has a lot more to offer at a high level. Thus, the Toffees should manage to lure the Italian to Goodison Park in the summer.
