Why Adrien Rabiot would be a good signing for Arsenal

According to Calciomercato24.com (h/t Football.london), Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot is a summer transfer target for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Rabiot had just arrived at Juventus last summer on a free transfer from PSG. However, the 25-year-old has been rarely used by new boss Maurizio Sarri this season, making just 11 starts from his 17 league appearances so far.

He has featured in 24 games across all competitions for the Serie A giants and is yet to register a goal or an assist. Meanwhile, Arsenal are looking to bolster their squad after their dismal display in the league this season.

The Gunners are currently 9th in the league – their worst ever performance in recent times. They have struggled both in midfield and defence, and had earlier targeted Rabiot in January. However, no deal materialised, with the French midfielder staying put in Turin.

Arsenal will have an experienced midfielder in Rabiot

However, with the side’s performances on the pitch clearly not improving, Arteta and Arsenal have now reignited their interest in their former target. Rabiot, meanwhile, is a versatile midfielder capable of playing both in the middle and in a deeper role, having done so on numerous occasions for former side PSG.

The Gunners, on the other hand, could really do with a player of Rabiot’s mould as Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira have struggled with poor form and inconsistency.

Moreover, they just have young Matteo Guendouzi and Joe Willock in the middle, with on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos expected to return to his parent club at the end of June.

Despite just being 25, Rabiot is an experienced campaigner with 227 matches, 24 goals and 14 assists under his belt for former side PSG, making him an alluring target for the Gunners.

Given Rabiot’s experience, playing for top sides such as PSG and Juventus, Arsenal’s decision to make a move for the Frenchman looks like a step in the right direction.

Verdict

Given Arsenal’s poor standings in the league this term, it is clear that they need some new faces. Having featured for some of the top sides in Europe, his experience could be handy for a struggling side such as Arsenal. Moreover, he is still young and has plenty of football left in him. Hence, Arsenal must try to land him at the Emirates as soon as possible.
