Why Adrien Rabiot to Everton would bolster their midfield

As per Corriere di Torino (h/t The Metro), Everton are interested in signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot in the summer.

Rabiot, 25, is a product of Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy. In his ten years with the club, he won 6 French League titles and many other trophies. He was one of the best midfielders in the club before leaving them for Juventus on a free transfer last summer.

The Frenchman, despite being in good form, has seen limited game time under Maurizio Sarri due to the presence of other senior players in Juventus’ squad. The report also suggests that Manchester United are also interested in signing the midfielder and he is open to a move to the Premier League this summer.

The Toffees, meanwhile, have endured a disappointing campaign so far. Their earlier performance saw Marco Silva get sacked.

Carlo Ancelotti’s era saw them get off to a good start but the results didn’t last long. They were dumped out of other cup competitions, whilst also finding themselves in the 12th position in the league standings. They have been inconsistent throughout the campaign.

The attacking unit, led by Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, has been brilliant. Apart from them though, no one has performed consistently. The defence has been shaky throughout the season, conceding 46 goals so far.

Thus, it is necessary for Everton boss Ancelotti to bring in new faces to the squad. They need to make sure that there is depth in every department to push on and fare better next season.

Rabiot could bring stability to Everton’s midfield

One area that the manager should focus on strengthening is the midfield. Ton Davies, Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson are the three main attack-minded midfielders in the squad. But none of them have contributed enough to Everton’s cause.

Gomes was out of action for the majority of the campaign due to a major injury. Sigurdsson has failed to impress, racking up just 1 goal and 2 assists so far. And Davies, who was at his best last term, has been out of form.

In that regard, signing Rabiot from Juventus would do Everton a world of good. The Frenchman has been at his best in the past few seasons and is one of the most talented midfielders in Europe. Though he has struggled in Italy, he is capable of doing better.

Rabiot has made over 250 career appearances and his inclusion in Ancelotti’s squad would be a massive boost. He has been with the top teams in his entire career so far and would bring in a healthy competition within the squad.

Verdict

At 25, Rabiot has his best years ahead of him and would be a crucial player for the Toffees in the coming campaigns. Everton are in dire need of midfielders to bolster their ranks and Rabiot would provide them with the much-needed quality and depth. Thus, they should try to lure the Frenchman to Goodison Park this summer.
