Why Everton should make a move for Aaron Ramsey

According to The Express, Everton are keen on signing Juventus and Wales star Aaron Ramsey ahead of the new season.

The report suggests that the Italian champions are willing to get Ramsey out of their books this summer as they look for a new start under recently appointed Andrea Pirlo. They are willing to let go of him just 12 months after they signed him from Arsenal.

However, the Toffees will have to face competition for the signing of the Wales international as Serie A sides Napoli and Roma are also keen on securing his services, as per the report.

Born in Wales, Ramsey started his journey with Cardiff City and joined the Gunners in the summer of 2008. He initially struggled for game time and his progress was hampered due to injuries, which resulted in Ramsey going out on loan to Nottingham Forest and Cardiff.

However, since his return to his parent club in 2011, he established himself as a key figure under Arsene Wenger and helped the side lift three FA Cup titles. He went on to make 371 appearances for the club before joining Juventus last summer.

However, his time in Italy hasn’t been successful as the midfielder made just 11 starts under Maurizio Sarri, scoring 3 goals and providing 1 assist.

Ramsey’s experience could bolster Everton’s midfield

Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival at Goodison Park helped the club as he managed to take the club to 12th position in the league standings. However, they have been inconsistent throughout the campaign and the need for reinforcements has been clear.

Ancelotti should focus on strengthening the midfield. Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson have failed miserably and their ineffectiveness cost the Toffees a lot. Portuguese international Andre Gomes was also on the sidelines for the majority of the campaign due to a major injury. Apart from them, Everton don’t have regular starters in midfield.

In that regard, taking a gamble on Ramsey could pay off well for them. The Welsh international may not have done well with Juventus but he has a fantastic record in England. His experience could be a huge boost to Everton’s midfield.

The 29-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder and he could engineer the Toffees’ midfield with ease. His presence would certainly add some much-needed quality to the squad and he can also provide them with the extra goals from the middle of the park, which is evident from the 72 career goals he has scored so far.

Verdict

At 29, Ramsey has a few more years left to play at a higher level and Everton should make use of his experience. He could be their leader in the midfield and the Wales international would certainly add a different dimension to Ancelotti’s game. Thus, they should manage to bring him back to England this summer.
