Who is Sebastian Walukiewicz? All you need to know about this Arsenal target

As per a report by The Mirror, Arsenal are interested in signing Polish ace Sebastian Walukiewicz. The 18-year-old, who is currently plying his trade with Pogon Szczecin, has also emerged on Southampton’s radar.

The Mirror claims that Sven Mislintat has identified the youngster as a potential target for the Gunners and that several scouts have monitored his performances in the ongoing season so far.

Arsenal are plotting a January swoop for Sebastian (h/t The Mirror) but his exemplary displays have attracted attention from different quarters. But before that, let’s take a closer look at his profile.

Who is he?

Born in Gorzow Wielkopolski, Poland, Walukiewicz joined local club MKP Gorzow Wielkopolski and spent a good number of years there. He then moved to Legia Warsaw and successfully broke into their B team. After that, the 18-year-old joined Pogon Szczecin.

He made his presence felt with their B team but since then, he has established himself as a mainstay for the first-team. In fact, he has started 12 of Pogon’s 15 league games this term.

As far as his international career is concerned, he has featured regularly for Poland’s youth teams. However, Sebastian is yet to receive a call-up to the senior side.

What’s his playing style?

Blessed with adequate physical strengths, Sebastian has all the attributes required to succeed playing top-level football. Comfortable with the ball at his feet, the centre-back is adept at working his magic to keep the opposition attackers at bay.

Excellent at aerial challenges, Sebastian is also quite pacy and can help initiate attacks from the back. He is a good team player as well and can work quite well in tandem with different members of the team.

Move to Arsenal on the cards?

Since Unai Emery’s arrival at the Emirates, Arsenal have developed a system wherein they play out from the back. And considering Sebastian’s aforementioned attributes and skills, he does seem like a solid fit.

But given his age and relative inexperience, he is unlikely to receive regular first-team opportunities at Arsenal from the get-go. That said, Emery is a known advocate of youth stars and if he performs well for the Gunners’ youth teams, he could be a solid long-term prospect.
