Grimes used to play high school basketball for The Woodlands College Park High School in The Woodlands, Texas. In his senior season, Grimes averaged 29.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game.

On November 15, 2017, Grimes committed to play college basketball for the University of Kansas.

In his freshman year, Grimes averaged 8.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, shooting 34 percent from the 3-point line and 38.4 percent from the field.

Who is Tyler Myers?

As said before, Tyler is the half-brother of NBA player Quentin Grimes. 31-year-old Tyler was born on February 1, 1990, to parents Tonja Stelly and Paul Myers III. Although Tyler was born in Houston, Texas, he grew up in Calgary, Alberta. Moreover, Tyler plays internationally for Canada.

Tyler is six foot eight inches tall (203 cm) and weighs 104 kg (229 lb). He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round, 12th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Further, at the end of the 2009–10 season, Myers won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s best rookie.

Tyler Myers Career

Before joining the National Hockey League (NHL), Tyler played in the Western Hockey League (WHL). In the 2005 Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam Draft, Myers was the Kelowna Rockets first-round selection, 19th overall. Also, before joining the WHL, Tyler played minor hockey at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame with the Hounds.

So, after getting drafted in the Western Hockey League (WHL), Tyler began his major junior career with the Kelowna Rockets in 2005–06.

Afterward, Tyler was selected 12th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In 2009, Tyler helped the Kelowna Rockets to a 2009 Ed Chynoweth Cup championship following a junior career-high 42-point regular season. Scoring 20 points during the Rockets playoff run, Myers was instrumental in the franchise’s third WHL title and was selected as the WHL Playoff MVP.

Subsequently, after Tyler’s WHL championship win with the Rockets, he was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres on May 11, 2009.

Tyler started the 2009–10 season with the Buffalo Sabres. He recorded his first NHL point, an assist, on October 8, 2009, against the Phoenix Coyotes. Then Tyler went on to play for the Buffalo Sabres till 2015.

Notably, on October 14, 2012, Myers signed with Klagenfurt AC of the Austrian Erste Bank Hockey League during the 2012 NHL lockout.

Then on February 11, 2015, Tyler was traded to the Winnipeg Jets. In the 2017-18 season, Tyler and the Winnipeg Jets finished second in the Central Division and made the playoffs for the first time since 2014–15. The Jets ultimately made it to the Western Conference Final, losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in five games.

Furthermore, on July 1, 2019, Myers signed as a free agent to a five-year, $30 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks. Currently, Tyler plays defence and is an alternate captain for the Vancouver Canucks.
