While the word “mid” might have been around for a long while, it was popularized by Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who is popularly known as MJF in AEW
“Mid” became a huge hit on TikTok ever since MJF used the term on one of his several thrilling promos. During the promo, the AEW star hyped himself up in the ring and took aim at the midwest United States. “It’s called the Midwest because everything in it is mid, “Friedman shouted. “Skyline Chili? Mid! Your Cincinnati Reds who haven’t won a World Series since 1990? Much-Much-much-mid! And every single person who lives here is MID.”
In internet slang, the term “mid” is being used to refer to anything substandard or mediocre. In September @this.is.cdub uploaded the rant to TikTok with added “boom” sound effects each time MJF said “mid”. AEW saw the tremendous popularity of the three letters and sold many MJF merchandises with “mid” written on them.
The MJF-Wardlow feud is one for the ages
MJF and Wardlow have been at loggerheads of late. The 26-year-old MJF was the leader of the stable known as The Pinnacle and Wardlow was his bodyguard and member of the heel faction.
MJF used Wardlow to win many of his matches. However, the tension was rising over a number of months. MJF slapped Wardlow and threatened to bring him and his family to the streets. Wardlow got his revenge during MJF’s dog collar match against CM Punk at AEW Revolution. The big man was called out to ringside by MJF towards the later stages of the match.
MJF asked for the Dynamite Diamond Ring but Wardlow acted as if he couldn’t find it in his pockets. After some time, he tossed the ring to Punk who used it to good effect and won the match.
Wardlow turned babyface after that incident. For the last few weeks, Wardlow has tried to get his hands on MJF but the latter’s security team has stopped him in his tracks.
This is only building up the animosity and fans are waiting anxiously for Wardlow to get his hands on The Salt of the Earth. AEW deserves a lot of credit for how it’s handling the rivalry.
