One of the most asked questions about the 7’1” mountain of a man who freakishly combined strength, speed and agility in his prime (other than his height, of course) is which college did Shaquille O’Neal attend before he was drafted into the NBA as a professional basketball player.

As it turns out, Shaq went to the Louisiana State University in Louisiana. After attending his high school at Fulda American High School in Germany as well as the Robert G. Cole High School in San Antonio, Texas – Shaq went to the Louisiana State University where he spent his college days from 1989 to 1992.

What was it like for Shaq during his time at LSU?

It is fair to say Shaq enjoyed a very productive time at Louisiana State University.

It was during his time with the LSU Tigers (the college basketball team of Louisiana State University) that Shaq made his name as a freakish athlete destined for a great professional career – a spell that saw him win the regular season Conference with the Tigers in 1991.

His heroics with the Tigers helped him get drafted by Orlando Magic as their first choice as well as the first overall choice for the 1992 NBA Draft.

And as fate would have it, the colours of the LSU Tigers are also coincidentally the colours Shaq would grow to be most associated with in his NBA career – the legendary yellow and purple threads of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Other than the Lakers, Shaq also represented Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics over a career spanning across nearly two decades.

However, it was with the Lakers that Shaq enjoyed the most success with, as he struck up a legendary partnership with the late great Kobe Bryant and won three back to back NBA Championships – and ended with a career that saw his iconic #34 jersey be retired by the Lakers.
