On April 14, 2023, Netflix made it available. The tale and the series will come to a close with this. This is the third and final season of The Last Kingdom on Netflix. Similar to the original, this new product is based on Bernard Cornwell’s historical fiction series The Saxon Stories. The story takes place in the fictional city of Bebbanburg (present-day Bamburgh), the capital of Northumbria.

The Last Kingdom (TV program) ran very effectively for seven years over five seasons, so the 111-minute Netflix feature has some large shoes to fill.

Seven Kings Must Die: FILMING LOCATIONS

Locations used for filming include Northumberland, England, and Budapest, Hungary. Production on the historical drama film supposedly got rolling towards the end of January 2022 and concluded in March of the same year. Let’s go along with Uhtred on his quest to unify England and find out where the filming took place in the world.

Budapest, Hungary

Almost all of ‘Seven Kings Must Die’ was shot in and around Budapest, Hungary’s capital. Goböljárás, located west of the city, seems to have been used as a stand-in for Winchester Castle in several of the filmed sequences. The production team reportedly used sets featuring medieval buildings north of Budapest to shoot the interior sequences, particularly those involving Bebbanburgh and Winchester.

Northumberland, England

Northumberland was used for recording a few significant scenes, primarily exteriors. Specifically, the ‘Seven Kings Must Die’ team slept in the hamlet of Bamburgh, near the imposing Bamburgh Castle. The outside of this castle represents the exterior of the movie version of Bebbanburgh, Uhtred’s home. Alnwick Castle, Hadrian’s Wall, Hexham Abbey, and Lindisfarne Castle are all in Northumberland.

This movie has impactful and great battle scenes, not as good as the Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones franchises, but it was significant for a film with a small budget. This was a feast for the eyes.
