Mercedes superstar Lewis Hamilton is yet to lead a race in Formula 1 this year.

It’s fair to say that Mercedes superstar Lewis Hamilton has been having a struggle keeping up with the front pack this year. The seven-time World Champion has managed just one podium this year, which was a 3rd place finish in Bahrain, and looks way off the pace from the cars and drivers ahead of him. Hamilton currently sits in sixth place in the Drivers Championship standings, 75 points behind leader and reigning world champion Max Verstappen.

In fact, even Hamilton’s new teammate George Russell seems to have a better understanding of his Mercedes car than his fellow Briton. This is certainly new territory for Hamilton late in his career. The 37-year-old had promised fans that the best was yet to come after losing the championship to Verstappen on the final lap of the Abu Dhabi GP. But Hamilton has been unable to live up to the hype that he created at the start of the year.

When was the last time Hamilton led a race?

Fans on social media have now been curious to know when Hamilton last led a race as it feels like an eternity. The last time Hamilton was leading a race was in fact at the Abu Dhabi GP last year. Hamilton was leading for the majority of the race and was even ahead of Verstappen on the final lap. However, the Dutchman was able to make an overtake on his championship rival to take the lead, and win the race and the championship in a dramatic fashion.

However, Hamilton being unable to lead a race in 2022 is rather surprising even after seven rounds. This is unusual territory for the F1 legend, who has the most number of race wins in the competition.
