During the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft that took place in 2010, the Baltimore Orioles selected Manny Machado in the first round, placing him third overall. When the draught took place, he was just 17 years old, but he was already considered one of the most promising possibilities in the draft class. On August 9, 2012, Machado made his first appearance in Major League Baseball with the Orioles. He soon established himself as one of the most promising young players in the sport.

Machado has made $108 million so far off of that contract, and he was set to make $32 million this season; but, he has now secured an extension that will likely keep him in San Diego for the rest of his career. According to The Athletic’s reporting, the relevant contract lacks opt-out clauses.

Now 30 years old, Machado had a season in which he hit.298/.366/.531 (159 OPS+), tallied 37 doubles, 32 home runs, 102 RBI, 100 runs, and had a 6.8 WAR. In addition to being selected to his sixth All-Star team, he finished second in the National League MVP vote. It was undeniably the best year of his career, which is rapidly progressing towards being one deserving of a spot in the Hall of Fame.

For the fourth time, he placed in the top five in MVP voting, and it was his highest finish ever.
