Canadian musician Drake is known for a lot of his great music and hits, but also for the Drake Curse.
The Drake Curse is when the musician either bets on a sports star or is seen with them, and that leads to a lot of problems for them. This has become a meme and many stars have been hit by the Drake Curse, which includes many from the MMA world.
The Drake Curse seems to have been in place before 2013 when he was betting on college basketball games. He became part of the Kentucky college basketball programme, and they did not win a title for a while, even with Drake betting a significant sum on them.
The Toronto Raptors, his hometown NBA team, and even the Miami Heat have been affected by the Drake Curse.
Then, Serena Williams was affected by the Curse in the 2015 US Open. He has bet on football matches such as Manchester City, who lost to Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League knockout rounds.
Conor McGregor, Jorge Masvidal, Justin Gaethje and Tommy Fury have all been hit by the Drake Curse as well. The Canadian had bet big on these combat stars, and all ended up losing.
What happened to the bet that Drake placed for Israel Adesanya vs Sean Strickland?
Drake had bet big on the Israel Adesanya vs Sean Strickland middleweight title fight at UC 293.
This was supposed to be an easy win for Adesanya given that Strickland was named as his opponent just a month back. Dricus Du Plessis pulled out of the title fight and Strickland was brought in.
However, one of the biggest shocks took place in the history of the UFC. Strickland made it look easy against Adesanya as he dominated his rival, at least for four rounds.
Adesanya looked tired and slow, and Strickland won the belt in a huge shock. This also hurt Drake as he lost $500,000 in the bet.
He had bet on Stake that Adesanya would defeat Strickland by KO. The musician had put up $500,000 and he was expected to get $920,000 if Adesanya did get the win.
The Drake Curse did hit Adesanya this time, and it is to be seen if The Last Stylebender can reclaim his title for a second time.
This isn’t the first time the Drake Curse has hit Adesanya. The New Zealander also lost to Alex Pereira at UFC 281 where the musician lost millions of dollars.
However, Adesanya has been able to overcome this curse, once, when he beat Jared Cannonier at UFC 276.
