What does the future hold for 24/7 champion Rob Gronkowski and his WWE contract after NFL signing?

Rob Gronkowski was the host for WWE WrestleMania 36 but he has signed a contract with the NFL now

WWE had only recently signed NFL star Rob Gronkowski on a huge contract, but that has been ended, it seems.

The 30-year-old former New England Patriot star had been seen on a few WWE PPVs before signing up with the company.

Gronk, as he is fondly called, retired from the NFL before signing for WWE, and had spoken about the toll that injuries had taken on his body.

Moving to WWE was a wise move as Gronkowski already had an impressive build and just needed to learn wrestling.

The contract with WWE was signed in March 2020 and he won the 24/7 title too. He still is the holder of that belt but there is another twist in the tale.

Gronkowski has now teamed up with former Patriots star Tom Brady at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

WWE congratulated Gronk for this feat but served a warning to him too:

“Per the rules of the 24/7 Title, Gronk must defend his championship at all times in any location. He could be celebrating a touchdown pass from Tom Brady…anytime, anywhere.”

This serves a dilemma to WWE and Gronk over what happens to the title.

What next for Gronkowski and the WWE 24/7 title?

This probably was a wise move from WWE to allow Gronkowski to return to the NFL. The company has cut several talents that weren’t seen in the ring all too often recently, and the Gronk falls into that category.

It would look horrible for the company if Gronk was cut just a month after signing a contract. Instead, they made it look like he was still a WWE star but will also feature in the NFL.

What is a surety is that Gronk will not feature much on WWE shows regularly. We might get one of two appearances here and there, but his focus will be with Tampa Bay and the new NFL season.

Gronkowski still holds the WWE 24/7 title and it will be interesting to see what WWE can do with that.

They could tie up with the Buccaneers and see Gronkowski defend his title from time to time. However, the most likely scenario sees Gronkowski lose it to another wrestler soon. Kyle Busch had won the title too but lost it on the same night on Raw.

Gronk won it at WrestleMania 36, but that might remain his greatest moment in WWE. He will go down as one of the 24/7 champions, but the NFL’s call seems to have also come at the right time for WWE.
