West Ham Opinion: Why West Ham should make a move for Soualiho Meite
According to a report from Calciomercato, West Ham are interested in a summer swoop for Torino’s midfield ace, Soualiho Meite.
The former France youth international has made a big impact since arriving in Italy from Monaco last summer, and has attracted the interest of West Ham, who as per the Calciomercato have to pay €30m to secure his services.
Meite, 25, has made a name for himself with Torino and it will be interesting to see if the Italian club decides to cash in this summer. But West Ham should not leave any stone unturned in the midfielder’s pursuit when the transfer window re-opens in a few months’ time.
West Ham have endured a poor season, failing to live up to the expectations of the fans after spending sky-high on some exciting players in the summer transfer window.
Ideally, the Hammers’ hopes of playing in the Europa League next season have all but gone. With just three games left to play this season, Manuel Pellegrini should start planning for the upcoming summer transfer window.
One area Pellegrini should put special emphasis while addressing in the summer should be the midfield.
West Ham have struggled with midfield options this season, with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Manuel Lanzini and Carlos Sanchez spending a majority of 2018/19 on the treatment table. Thus, strengthening the options in the middle of the park stands as a no-brainer and Pellegrini would do a good job by signing Soualiho Meite.
Meite has been impressive for Torino this season, managing 33 appearances across all competitions, supplying with two goals and as many assists.
The 25-year-old’s pace, power and natural athleticism combined with his passing range and ability to drive forward with the ball make such a solid central midfielder to have in the squad.
Predominantly a central midfielder by trade, the Frenchman can also operate as a holding midfielder when required. He is an excellent tackler and never hesitates to stick a leg to halt opposition’s advance and pick up a booking for his team. The former Lille and Monaco ace has a lot of energy and works tirelessly to make things tick for the team.

Meite would bring aggression, steel and bite to the midfield and be an excellent partner for someone like Declan Rice—if he stays at West Ham—next season.
Verdict
Meite has all the attributes required to excel in the Premier League and Pellegrini shouldn’t think twice before splashing the cash to sign him in the summer.
