West Ham Opinion: Why Pellegrini should make a move for Wesley Moraes?

According to a report from TEAMtalk, West Ham are one of many clubs interested in Club Brugge star Wesley Moraes.

The Brazilian, 22, has been impressing with Club Brugge and has been linked with a move away from the Pro League side for some time now. He has netted 15 goals and assisted 10 times across all competitions so far.

The report claims Cardiff had a bid rejected for the forward during the January window, while Arsenal mulled over making a £15million offer for the Brazilian. And interest is likely to rise ahead of the summer window if Wesley Moraes continues to impress in Belgium.

That being said, West Ham should go all out to sign the 22-year-old forward when the transfer market re-opens in a few months’ time.

West Ham have blown hot and cold throughout the season and currently lie 11th, fifth points adrift of seventh-placed Leicester City. With six games left to play, Manuel Pellegrini and co. will go all out to book a place in Europe next season.

Despite making a lot of signings last summer, the Hammers’ haven’t got the desired results which goes onto suggest that the team still has a lot of room of improvement in certain areas. One of them certainly is the forward department, with Andy Carroll’s contract expiring in the summer and Marko Arnautovic going off the boil after missing out on a January transfer to China.

Javier Hernandez has sprung to life of late but he has managed just seven league goals and will turn 31 in June. That’s enough to suggest why West Ham need a young, promising and dynamic centre-forward next season and Pellegrini would be wise to add Wesley Moraes to his ranks.

Moraes has been with Club Brugge since January 2016 after just half a season later at Slovakian club AS Trencin. He has been a consistent performer for the Belgian side but has looked extremely lethal in front goal this season.

Wesley Moraes

The South American is a real monster in the box, capable of dominating defenders with his physicality and aerial prowess. He has incredible strength which allows him to hold onto the ball and win aerial duels without even breaking a sweat.

The 22-year-old has a fierce shot on both the legs and is a fantastic header of the ball as well. Moraes’s has good technique and ball control, whilst possessing a decent turn of pace despite being so tall. Furthermore, he is a composed finisher in front of goal and has the potential to only get better from here on.

Verdict

Moraes absolutely has all the tools to take the Premier League by storm. West Ham would be doing a smart piece of business if they manage to land him this summer as the 22-year-old Brazilian could be a long-term replacement for Carroll at the London Stadium.
