Watford sanctioning a deadline day exit for their out-of-favour 24-year-old ace would be in the best interests of all

Why Watford parting ways with Ignacio Pussetto would be ideal

According to the Watford Observer, out-of-favour Watford winger Ignacio Pussetto could be set for a loan exit from Vicarage Road before the transfer deadline.

As per the report, Pussetto has emerged as a target for newly-promoted Serie A outfit Crotone and while the player’s representatives have agreed to a loan deal, Watford would prefer to get the forward off their books permanently.

However, it is understood that the Hornets won’t turn down the opportunity to sanction a temporary exit for the 24-year-old should no other option be available. Pussetto has struggled to make much of an impression at Watford following his move to Hertfordshire from fellow Pozzo-owned outfit Udinese back in January.

Ignacio Pussetto shot to prominence with Atletico de Rafaela and Huracan in the Argentine top-flight before completing a move to Udinese in the summer of 2018. Having accumulated 5 goals and 5 assists in 50 appearances for the Italian club in all competitions, Pussetto was transferred to Watford in January 2020.

The 24-year-old endeared himself to the hearts of the Hornets faithful with his goalline clearance to earn a point against Tottenham. However, the versatile winger featured sporadically during the second half of the previous campaign, playing just 67 minutes across 7 substitute appearances as Watford suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Pussetto has continued to struggle for playtime in the Championship this season as well. He has started only once in all competitions for the Hornets so far, which came in the club’s 2-0 defeat away at Newport County in the EFL Cup last month.

Pussetto doesn’t seem to have a future at Watford

Ignacio Pussetto came through the door at Vicarage Road in January with a promising track record in Argentina and Italy but his brief stint at the English capital has proven to be an ill-fated one so far. The 24-year-old has clearly struggled to acclimatise to life in England while the frequent managerial changes at the club haven’t made things any easier for him.

Vladimir Ivic hasn’t really looked overly keen to give Pussetto a fair crack of the whip in the Championship this season with the Argentine’s only league appearance coming as a five-minute cameo in the Hornets’ goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Serbian gaffer’s preference to use a back-five doesn’t seem to fit Pussetto’s strengths. The Argentine, who is an out-and-out wide attacker by trade, wasn’t quite at his best when deployed as a wing-back in the EFL Cup defeat against Newport County

Plus, with Watford suffering an early exit from the Carabao Cup this year, Pussetto’s chances of playing look very slim, indeed. The former Udinese man is currently way down the pecking order under Ivic and a move away from Vicarage Road should, therefore, be in the best interests of all parties involved.

Verdict

Pussetto’s fortunes at the club don’t look positive and it would be completely understandable if he seeks a return to Italy after struggling for game time in English football.

It wouldn’t make any sense for the Hornets to stand in his way considering that he isn’t an integral part of the manager’s plans this season. With the deadline in a few hours, Watford should sanction an exit for Pussetto.
