Watford Opinion: Why the Hornets should make a move for Mady Camara?

According to a report from The Evening Standard, Premier League duo Watford and Newcastle United are battling for Olympiakos midfielder Mady Camara.

The Guinea international, 22, only moved to Greece last summer from French second tier outfit AC Ajaccio, but he is already being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with Watford in the driver seat to seal his signature.

The 22-year-old has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring six goals. He joined Olympiakos from Ajaccio for a paltry £2million, but his consistent displays in Greece has seen his value shot up, and The Evening Standard claims Camara is now valued at around £12m.

Olympiakos are persuading the midfielder to stay put for at least one more season, but he is keen on joining Watford in the summer, adds the report. That being said, the Hornets should make a move for Mady Camara in the summer transfer window.

Watford have enjoyed a really good season in the Premier League; unfortunately, they have missed out a place in Europe. However, there have been makings of an exciting side and manager Javi Gracia should be proud of his team’s performances in the 2018/19 campaign.

To build on from this season, Gracia needs to recruit players that fit his system. The Spanish tactician could witness Abdoulaye Doucoure leaving in the summer, as the Frenchman has already expressed his desire to play in the Champions League. With no European football on offer, chances of Doucoure leaving for a bigger club are higher.

Thus, Gracia needs to be ready for such situation and should plot a summer swoop for Mady Camara as a potential replacement for the French midfielder, who has been one of the stars of the Hornets show this term.

Camara is a defensive midfielder by trade, known for his range of passing and tackling skills. The Guinean, despite being just 22 years old, has shown incredible maturity in his game. His positional awareness in midfield, combined with his eye for a pass and ability to come up with goals will make him an asset for any team.

Verdict

Watford will have a hugely talented player in their squad next season if they manage to sign Camara in the summer.

At £12 million he would represent a bargain deal for the Hornets and this is a signing Gracia needs to make if his team wants to achieve European football next term.
