Watford Opinion: Juan Cuadrado would be a massive coup for the Hornets

According to The Sun, former Chelsea star Juan Cuadrado has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, with West Ham and Watford thought to be interested in securing the services of the 30-year-old Colombian international in the summer.

The Sun also understands that Cuadrado is likely to leave Serie A champions Juventus at the end of the season and the Italian giants are hopeful of securing a fee in the region of £13-17 million by offloading the versatile right-sided midfielder.

However, if the London clubs are genuinely interested in bringing the Colombian star back to the Premier League, they would need to fend off interest from AC Milan, Sevilla and Valencia. (h/t The Sun)

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho splashed a huge amount to sign Cuadrado from Fiorentina back in 2015 but his spell at Stamford Bridge proved to be an ill-fated one, as the Colombian failed to nail down a regular starting role in the first-team.

He made only 15 appearances for the Blues and was shipped out on loan to Juventus prior to the start of the 2015-16 season before making his stay at Turin permanent in 2017.

Cuadrado played a key role for Juventus in his first couple of seasons at the club but he has fallen out of favour in the current campaign, thanks to a few recurrent injuries. In all, the 30-year-old boasts of an impressive record for the Serie A giants, having accumulated 14 goals and 30 assists from 133 appearances in all competitions.

To put things into perspective, Cuadrado has all the attributes to be a perfect marquee signing for both the aforementioned clubs but Watford would bag a massive coup if they manage to beat off competition for the experienced Colombian ace.

Manuel Pellegrini’s presence at the helm of affairs in east London might give West Ham an upper hand in this deal but the Hornets should do everything in their power to bring the versatile midfielder to Vicarage Road.

Watford has enjoyed a wonderful run in the Premier League this season under the stewardship of Javi Gracia and they looked well on course for making a return to the European stage for the first time in 35 years.

Irrespective of whether Watford manage to make it to the Europa League, they should aim to reach greater heights in the Premier League next season and the acquisition of Juan Cuadrado would help them improve massively in the attack.

Known for his lightning pace, quick acceleration and wonderful technical abilities on the ball, the Colombian is capable of playing anywhere down the right-hand side of the pitch, having featured as a right-back, right-winger, wide-forward and also as a supporting striker over the course of his illustrious and distinguished career in the Serie A.

He likes to run at his opposite number with pace and uses his exceptional close control and trickery to create space down the wide areas, while also possessing wonderful crossing ability and well-rounded passing attributes to bring that X-factor into the attacking ranks.

Cuadrado would certainly be an upgrade on the likes of Kiko Femenia, Ken Sema, Daryl Janmaat and Will Hughes down the right-hand side at Watford. Hence, it should be a no-brainer for the Hornets to splash the cash to bring the versatile Colombian ace back to London.
