Vlade Divac Career
Vlade Divac was the 1989, Round 1, 26th overall draft pick by the Los Angeles Lakers. Divac played in the position of Center and he is also the 2001 NBA All-Star.
Divac’s professional basketball career began in 1983 when he started playing for the club named Sloga from Kraljevo. Then in 1986, Divac signed with KK Partizan. With Partizan, Divac won the Yugoslav League in 1987.
In the 1989 NBA Draft, Divac was selected twenty-sixth overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. He played for the Lakers from 1989 to 1996. During his time with the Lakers, Divac was selected into the NBA All-Rookie Team in the 1989–90 season.
On July 1, 1996, Divac was traded to the Charlotte Hornets. Divac played for the Hornets from 1996 to 1998.
Subsequently, on January 22, 1999, Divac signed as a free agent with the Sacramento Kings. Divac played for the Kings from 1999 to 2004. During his time with the Kings, Divac became an NBA All-Star in 2001.
Notably, in 2004, Divac returned to the LA Lakers. However, he suffered back problems and could not play most of the season. Finally, on July 14, 2005, Divac announced his retirement, ending his 16-year NBA and 22-year professional basketball career.
Apart from being a player, Divac has a shining administrative career. Like in October 2005, right after ending his playing career with the Los Angeles Lakers, Divac got hired as the Lakers’ European scout.
Then in early March 2015, Divac was hired by the Sacramento Kings as their Vice President of basketball and franchise operations.
Subsequently, on August 31, 2015, Divac was promoted to the Kings’ Vice President of basketball operations and general manager. However, on August 14, 2020, Divac stepped down as general manager.
