Daniil Medvedev

The former world No. 1 has brought his A-game at the Vienna Open and breezed into the finals without breaking too much of a sweat. Medvedev is 2-2 in finals this year as of now.

The top seed began his campaign with a comfortable win in straight sets against Nikoloz Basilashvili. In the round of 16, Medvedev got the better of a fellow former US Open champion, Dominic Thiem, in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Medvedev played a very compact game against the talented Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals and registered a 6-4, 6-2 win. The Bulgarian veteran Grigor Dimitrov tried to weather the storm from Medvedev but couldn’t take the match into the third set. Dimitrov played well in the first set but Medvedev held his nerves. In the second set, it was all about Medvedev and his dominance. The match finished 6-4, 6-2 in favor of the Russian star.

Denis Shapovalov

The Canadian youngster has made it to his second ATP final this year. He was ousted by Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets in a close final at the Korea Open.

Shapovalov began with a fine win against Jurij Rodionov in straight sets in the first round. He followed it up with an impressive win against the fourth seed Taylor Fritz in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, Shapovalov made light work of the experienced Dan Evans and picked up a win in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The 23-year-old was not at his best in the first set of his semifinal match against Borna Coric. Shapovalov had to fight hard to take the first set by a small margin but picked up steam in the second set. He ended up handing a bagel to Coric in the second set and eventually won the match 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.

Head-to-Head and Prediction

The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 3-2 in favor of Daniil Medvedev. He defeated Shapovalov in their most recent meeting in Cincinnati, earlier this year. The match ended 7-5, 7-5 in favor of the world No. 4.

Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in straight sets.
