The Finnish No. 1 Emil Ruusuvuori takes on the world No. 48 Lorenzo Sonego in the round of 32 of the Vienna Open on Tuesday.
After getting off to a flying start this season with a run to the semifinals at Melbourne and finishing second best at the Maharashtra Open, Ruusuvuori went on a dry spell where she lost in the first rounds in various tournaments. Some of his best results were reaching the quarterfinals in a couple of tournaments – the BMW Open and the Queen’s Club Championships.
He returned to form at the Stockholm Open which recently concluded. The 23-year-old defeated the likes of Joao Sousa, Jiri Lehecka, and Frances Tiafoe to reach the semis. He eventually lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semis.
The Italian tennis pro has blown hot and cold this season. In a year filled with more misses than hits, Sonego’s best result came in the Moselle Open in Metz. He defeated the likes of Sebastian Korda, Hubert Hurkacz, and Alexander Bublik en route to winning the tournament. Sonego played some fine tennis throughout the tournament and ended up winning it without dropping a set.
The 27-year-old is coming into the Vienna Open on a three-match losing streak. He most recently played in the Tennis Napoli Cup and lost in the first round against Sebastian Baez in straight sets.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have not faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Emil Ruusuvuori to win in three sets.
