The Spaniard Paula Badosa managed to reach the second round of the US Open last year. This year, she will hope to go deeper in the tournament. She begins her campaign against Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko.
Paula Badosa
The fourth seed Paula Badosa has not been in great form of late. She won a title early on in the year in Sydney and followed up with a decent Australian Open campaign where she lost in the fourth round. She reached the semifinals in the Indian Wells Masters and the Stuttgart Open.
Recently, Badosa reached the semifinals of the Silicon Valley Classic but bowed out in the first rounds in the last two tournaments she played.
Lesia Tsurenko
Lesia Tsurenko will surely be inspired by her compatriot Daria Snigur’s sensational upset of Simona Halep in the first round of the US Open. The World No. 89 Lesia Tsurenko struck some good form over the summer and defeated Elena Rybakina and Camila Osorio.
At the Hungarian Open, Tsurenko reached the quarterfinals before having to retire during her match against Yulia Putintseva citing injury. The 33-year-old had her best result at Flushing Meadows in the 2018 edition of the tournament when she reached the quarterfinals.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
Paula Badosa and Lesia Tsurenko have not faced each other before and therefore, the head-to-head scoreline stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Paula Badosa to win in three sets.
